Ask a Wedding Photographer: 30 Most Common Questions Answered
- Do you work alone? Yes, I typically work alone at weddings. Occasionally, my daughter Alice and son Matt, talented photographers, assist me.
- Is a printed album included in the price? No, a printed album is not included. However, you can order one after the wedding. There’s no need to decide now—here is the link to prices – Printed Wedding Albums.
- Do you offer wedding videos or just slideshows with photos? I offer full wedding films. You can view prices and samples here. I have two packages: a 3-film package and a 1-film highlight package.
- Can we also have a slideshow? Yes, a slideshow featuring your favourite photos is included in the price.
- How many weddings have you photographed, and how long have you been in business? I have photographed around 1,200 weddings over the past 15 years.
- Do you have liability insurance? Yes, of course.
- What if you can’t shoot our wedding? Do you have a backup plan? Yes, I am a member of professional associations with over 300 photographers. If I cannot shoot your wedding, I will return your deposit and help you find a new photographer.
- Do you offer a second shooter? In most cases, a second shooter is not necessary. For more information, visit the second wedding photographer section.
- Can you visit the groom if he is 20 minutes away in the morning? I can visit the groom if he is within 10 minutes away or in the same hotel or venue. If I photograph the groom, it must be early, ideally around 10 or 11 am – See more details: Morning Schedule Wedding Day
- My ceremony is at 3 pm. Can you offer a discount since I only need a photographer an hour before the ceremony? I recommend having the photographer arrive earlier to capture all the necessary details. Photos of the venue, drone shots, and details like rings, shoes, and the wedding dress take over an hour. The bride should be in her wedding dress an hour before the ceremony. For more tips, visit the wedding day timeline guide.
- Can You Offer Any Midweek Discount? Occasionally, yes! It’s always worth asking 😊 Midweek weddings can often save the bride and groom some money. As weekends tend to be busier for wedding photographers, we sometimes have more availability during the week, which can translate into potential discounts for you. So, if you’re planning a midweek wedding, don’t hesitate to inquire about any available discounts!
- Do You Charge Travel Costs? Yes, I do charge for travel costs. Please note that I will only ask you to cover my petrol costs, which is just €50 per 100 km. I’m based in Carlow, so this would be calculated based on the distance from there. Unless, of course, you want to fly me to the wedding in your private jet! 😊
- Can I see a full gallery from a wedding? Yes, that’s a great idea! However, I do not send links or passwords to galleries for privacy reasons. I can show you a gallery during a Zoom call.
- Do we need to meet before the wedding? No, it’s not necessary. I will send you a wedding questionnaire 30 days before the wedding with all the questions I must ask. Feel free to contact me if there’s anything not covered in the questionnaire. Clients usually don’t have further questions after that.
- Do you take a list of moments to capture? No, I capture moments as they happen naturally. Working from a checklist can hinder creativity—a list of photos for a wedding photographer- Learn more

- Is there any way we can get our photos faster? Yes, you have the option to pay for fast-track processing. You will receive ten photos within the first three days after the wedding and the full gallery within two weeks. This involves extra work, so there is an additional charge to cover the expenses.
