6 reasons to choose Documentary Wedding Photography

Documentary Wedding Photography by DKPHOTO

I have been working for years as a professional wedding photographer. Documentary wedding photography is my absolute favourite type of od wedding photography. Here are six reasons to choose documentary photography for your wedding day:

Enjoy!  :)

Memories

As a wedding photographer, I aim to transport you back to your wedding day with every photograph I take. To capture the feeling, emotion and spontaneity of your wedding day. Magic memories that last a lifetime.

The Real You

Documentary wedding photography is about capturing the natural flow of your wedding day. Your genuine reaction to the events of the day and your natural smile and excitement. It is authentically you and your wedding day. Nothing fake. Nothing posed.

Awkward Posing

Documentary wedding photography is the perfect option for brides and grooms who cringe at hours and hours standing around in fake poses. You won’t even know your wedding photographer is snapping away as your wedding day unfolds. Avoid all that embarrassment and enjoy your wedding day, safe knowing that your wedding photographs are taking care of themselves.

Surprise Wedding Photographs!

With documentary wedding photography, you will see moments from your day that you weren’t even there for. Your wedding guests are arriving. Friends toasting together at your drinks reception. Your grandmother is listening to the speeches with a tear in her eye. It’s a documentary wedding photographer’s job to capture these moments throughout your wedding day.

Best of Both Worlds

Most wedding couples need traditional family portrait-style photographs taken on their wedding day. A documentary wedding photographer can take these traditional images and then switch back to capturing the natural happenings of the day, so you get the best of both worlds!

Natural Beauty

I have taken some of the most beautiful photographs of people just being themselves and enjoying a moment. People tend to go into “cheese” mode when a camera is placed before them. Having a documentary photographer allows for your friends and family to be captured naturally, and these types of photographs always look the most amazing!

Alternative, creative, quirky, reportage, documentary wedding photographer?

So many of my Brides and Grooms come to me overwhelmed and confused! They have heard their friends and family who have gotten married talk about wedding photography and photography. So many words are being used now to describe Irish wedding photography and what makes for a great wedding photographer.’

How to avoid disappointment? Learn More

Words like reportage, alternative wedding photography, documentary, and creative photography can cause panic for a Bride and Groom who want to book the right photographer for their wedding day. But what do all those words mean?!

Allow me to explain, as I am an alternative, creative, reportage, documentary wedding photographer!   … :)

I work with Brides and Grooms on their wedding day in a way that allows them to ENJOY their day. To me, that is 100% the most important thing. You do not want to spend hours posing for pictures and faking moments. I allow the day to unfold, and I capture the magic moments of your wedding day as they happen.

I am there to create the wedding photographs that will tell the story of your day. From the excitement and celebrations in the morning to the party on the dance floor after midnight! I am there in the background, documenting your beautiful day.

Wedding photography has moved away from posed photos and contrived “moments”. Of course, I will take the traditional family lineup of photographs that are important to have (and anything that your Mother or Grandmother are insisting upon!), but my main focus is to allow you to enjoy your day uninterrupted and free of hours of photo taking.:

Wedding day moments captured

I always ask my Brides and Grooms to sneak away for 20 minutes with me to enjoy some special time together in a romantic setting. Wedding days go by quickly after all the months and years of planning.

That is why I encourage my wedding day couples to take some time out together. Talk about all that has happened so far in the day and enjoy a celebratory glass of champagne together. I have one rule! They completely forget that I am there and forget all about the camera. Just enjoy the time together. It’s such a special day; these moments make for the most beautiful photographs you will treasure forever.

My wedding-day couples are all so different. Some dream of a fairy-tale princess castle, while others want to throw a party in a hay shed. I have seen it all and everything in between. Each and every wedding day is different, and so it should be.

The most important thing is for all of The Brides and Grooms to enjoy their day and have their wedding day moments captured. The laughter, tears, nerves, and excitement—it all comes together to be the best day of their lives, and my job is to capture those moments for them.

Please have a look through my portfolios to see some samples of my work. I am more than happy to answer any questions that you may have.

Enjoy all your planning, and you can now relax—the reportage, alternative, documentary, and creative wedding photographer you are looking for is not as hard to find as you may think!
