OUTDOOR DURHAMSTOWN CASTLE WEDDING
DURHAMSTOWN CASTLE WEDDING PHOTOS by DKPHOTO
I recently came across Durhamstown Castle as I had the pleasure of photographing one of my Brides and Grooms there on their wedding day. It is 600 years old and I was told that it has been continuously lived in since 1420. For any wedding couples that love the idea of an Irish Outddor Castle Wedding but also wants their venue to have a rustic charm and an informal atmosphere, then this is a real gem!
Located in Bohermeen in Co. Meath,
Durhamstown Castle is surrounded by meadows, mature trees and boasts fresh air that can only be felt in the countryside!
This is a wedding venue that will allow you to create a lovely relaxed atmosphere with dogs at the wedding while impressing your guests outdoors with a little grandeur here and there. A lovely balance!
The night before hand you can bring your family and bridal party together in, what the Castle describes as a “wonderfully moody purple dining room”. How fabulous?! If you are more interested in keeping things chilled, there is a buffet option that they can set up in the vaulted kitchens.
Georgian drawing rooms
On the big day, you have the option to have your wedding brought into the Georgian drawing rooms for your reception or if the sun is shining, this can also be set up on the croquet lawn. It’s fantastic to have both options as the Irish weather can never be trusted!
All the rooms downstairs are bursting with personality and your guests will enjoy mingling between the rooms, with lit fires and freshly cut flowers from the grounds of the castle adding colour and charm.
As barns goes, it’s a GREAT Barn!
As the dinner bells rings out your guests will be off on another adventure! They will be guided to the walled garden and under the stone-arch where the Great Barn will be revealed. This barn is well named. As barns goes, it’s a GREAT Barn!
The Wow factor that wedding couples are always on the hunt for is here in spades! The exposed beams, fairy lights and greenery draping from the ceiling is stunning. Long tables with mis-matched chairs create that rustic chic vibe. Centrepieces of fresh wildflowers work so well and vintage touches are right at home.
In terms of of documentary wedding photography, I was spoilt for choice at Durhamstown Castle. We had a beautiful natural landscape all around us to work with. Always worried about the weather, I was comforted knowing that within the castle there are multiple places for the Bride and Groom’s photographs to be taken.
More about my photos:
I always recommend that my wedding day couples take some time out from their big day to spend some time together alone. The day goes so fast and Brides and Grooms spend so much time with their wedding guests that sometimes they forget to spend time together! Durhamstown Castle has so many quiet corners to steal a glass of champagne away together before you re-join the celebrations!
